Art school friends reunite for special showcase in Kilcormac

Six artists from counties Offaly, Westmeath and Galway, who studied together at GMIT (Galway) are coming together in Kilcormac for a special reunion exhibition, which opens at Lough Boora Room, Kilcormac Community Centre on September 10.

Aptly titled Full Circle, the exhibition draws together artists Linda Kelly, Rosaleen Heavin, Belinda Fair, Rachel Somers, Aisling Morin and Patricia Kavanagh who first met in art school, at GMIT. The girls began as aspiring artists learning, experimenting and finding their individual voices, belonged to different towns and counties, but shared a common dream of making it big in the art world. In the years that followed, the ladies established their artistic styles, individual careers, navigated family life, all alongside a friendship that has endured.

The exhibition will bring together a diverse collection of original work from the six artists. With very different styles, techniques, subject matter and perspectives represented, visitors can expect an exhibition filled with individuality and contrast, six distinctive artistic voices connected by a shared creative beginning.

For the artists, there is something particularly special about exhibiting alongside one another again, after years. In this exhibition, they return with the experience of lives lived, careers developed, families raised, friendships maintained and creative identities that have continued to evolve.

The event will also provide an opportunity for visitors to experience the newly transformed Lough Boora Room as a space for art, creativity and culture within the community. Art connoiseurs and enthusiasts are equally wecome to come meet the artists, enjoy the work and join in an evening celebrating art, friendship, creativity and the journeys that brings one back to where they began.

Full Circle will be on display at the Lough Boora Room, Kilcormac Community Centre, R42X894, from Thursday, September 10. Admission is free for all.
