Dunne claims podium finish at Spanish F2 Grand Prix

Offaly racing driver Alex Dunne claimed a second place finish at the Spanish F2 Grand Prix feature race in Madrid on Sunday.

The podium placed finish cements his fourth place standing in the F2 Championship, the Clonbollogue native now just 38 points adrift of leader Nikola Tsolov following a weekend of race track action in the Spanish capital.

Having qualified second on the grid following Friday's practice run, the 20 year old maintained that position for the feature race duration, adding 19 points to his championship tally.

Speaking at the post race press conference, the Rodin Motorsport driver said he was "very happy" with his race performance, complimenting his racing team's decision to use soft tyres on his car.

"I was impressed by how good the soft tyres felt. They degraded to a certain point and then did not get any worse. The lap times stayed consistent. That was the key to having a good race today," Dunne said.

Baku is Dunne's next F2 race destination as he looks to close the gap in the first of three remaining feature races before the season ends in December in Abu Dhabi.
