"Fairs continue to thrive": Hundreds attend Banagher Horse Fair

The Banagher Horse Fair took place last Sunday, marking one of Ireland's biggest fairs.

Hundreds were said to be in attendance at the fair, which takes place annually on the second Sunday of September.

"It is the one day in the year when people come together meet up, socialise, and trade their horses and ware," one attendee said.

"Fairs continue to thrive all over Ireland as people have a very strong attachment to their culture and heritage."

Stalls lined the streets from Market Square to St Paul's Church of Ireland. The family friendly event is said to have "passed off peacefully", with fairgoers now gearing up for the Ballinasloe Fair.

Preparations are already underway for next year's event, which will take place on the September 12, 2027.
