Kilcormac secondary school students meet ambassadors

Coláiste Naomh Cormac was delighted to have a number of students represent the school at a special event in Tullamore Library on Monday, as part of Ireland’s EU Presidency.

The students had the fantastic opportunity to meet the Belgian Ambassador to Ireland, Nicolas Nihon, and the Irish Ambassador to Belgium, Kevin Conmy, and to take part in an informative briefing session and question and answer alongside students from other local secondary schools.

The session provided a valuable insight into the role of the European Union, the work of an Ambassador, and Ireland’s role within the EU, the school said.

The students were particularly enthusiastic to engage with the ambassadors and ask questions about European affairs and opportunities available to young people.

Having been awarded EPAS (European Parliament Ambassador School) status last year, students were especially keen to discuss their EPAS work and explore ways to further develop their European projects this year.

The ambassadors shared some fantastic ideas and inspiration for projects and activities that could help students enhance their EPAS programme, including partaking in the EU & Me initiative.

It was a wonderful opportunity for the students to engage directly with representatives of Ireland and Belgium and to gain a greater understanding of European citizenship and diplomacy.

Coláiste Naomh Cormac has expressed its thanks to everyone involved in organising this excellent event and for giving students such a valuable and memorable experience.
