Delamere to open Disability and Awareness Day

Edenderry comedian Neil Delamere will officially open the Annual Disability Awareness and Information Day, which takes place on Thursday, October 8. County Offaly Disability Advocacy Service, together with County Offaly Citizens Information Service, are hosting a Disability Awareness Day on October 8 in the Bridge Shopping Centre, Tullamore. The organisers have thanked manager of the Tullamore Bridge Shopping Centre for providing the premises free of charge and to Midlands 103, which will broadcast the Will Faulkner show from the Bridge Centre between 10am and 12pm on the day. There will be 19 stands with 22 different groups available on the day, providing a wide variety of information. Some of these include the Adult Learning Centre, Alzheimer Society of Ireland, Midland Employment Support Agency, DeafHear.ie, Regional Disability Services, Centre for Independent living, Citizens Information Service, GROW, National Council for the Blind in Ireland and Brainwave Irish Epilepsy Association. There were very positive responses from last year's event with over 300 people visiting stands and raising disability related questions. The information day is of great benefit to the public and the disability organisations as it is an effective way to promote and highlight awareness of disability issues such as accessibility, which it is hoped will be discussed on the Will Faulkner show midlands 103 between 10am and 12pm. It allows for networking of groups and a platform for getting information to the public on existing and new services that are available.
