No closure date yet for Tullamore Ulster Bank branch

Several Ulster Bank branches across the country closed this month for rebranding as Permanent TSB outlets - but the bank's Tullamore premises was not among them.

The branch on High Street in the town has not been acquired by Permanent TSB and is remaining open for now, with no date announced yet for its permanent closure.

"As yet a timeframe for closure of the Ulster Bank branches that are not transferring to Permanent TSB has not been announced, but once details are confirmed we'll inform our customers and colleagues," Ulster Bank spokesperson Adrienne Ferguson told the Offaly Independent today (Friday).

RTÉ has reported that the closure dates for the branches which are not part of the Permanent TSB rebrand will be announced "in a few months' time," but Ms Ferguson declined to give any timeframe for the announcement.

"Once a timeframe for closure of those branches is confirmed we'll inform our customers and colleagues in the first instance," she said.

Ulster Bank's phased withdrawal from the Republic of Ireland was first announced in February 2021, and last November the bank announced the commencement of redundancy programmes for staff.

Some 25 of its premises across the country closed earlier this month for rebranding as Permanent TSB branches as part of a €25m investment by the latter institution. These included branches in Ballyconnell, Thurles, and Eyre Square in Galway.

The bank's branch in Athlone was, like Tullamore, not included in the Permanent TSB rebrand.
