Local councillor encourages people to avail of housing schemes
Cllr Robert McDermott organised an information evening recently, detailing the various schemes available if you want to buy, renovate or insulate a house and how to save costs on planning applications.
Cllr McDermott said: “I get a lot of queries from Constituents about buying houses or renovating houses and therefore I decided to hold this information evening to address the many questions raised.”
The keynote speaker on the night was Senator Mary Fitzpatrick who works closely with the Minister for Housing and is a member of the Housing Committee in the Oireachtas. Other contributors on the night included Managing Director of Ashgrove Renewables, Shane Murphy, who gave a detailed presentation on the various SEAI schemes and grants that people can avail of to make their homes more energy efficient.
Cllr McDermott added: “This was a very successful evening and people who attended gained valuable information on their housing queries. Senator Fitzpatrick has a wealth of knowledge on all matters housing and the information she gave was invaluable. Many people there were surprised at the amount of SEAI grants available, which were explained by Shane Murphy in his excellent presentation.”
Councillors Eddie Fitzpatrick and Tony McCormack and local election candidate, Claire Murray, also attended the evening, which was held in O’Donoghues Pub, Edenderry. If anyone needs further information about buying or renovating a house, Cllr McDermott encourages them drop into his constituency office in Edenderry, which is the only permanent constituency office in the area.
