Two Offaly players picked for hurling 'team of the week' after Westmeath win
An excellent start to 2025 for Offaly's senior hurlers continued yesterday (Sunday), with a six-point win over Westmeath which put the Faithful County in a commanding position in the hunt for promotion to Division 1A.
Two of the county's players have been rewarded for their fine displays against Westmeath by being selected for the GAA.ie hurling 'team of the week'.
Forward Brian Duignan contributed 0-14 of Offaly's total of 1-22, with 0-10 coming from frees.
The Durrow clubman was selected on the team of the week along with defender James Mahon, of Kilcormac/Killoughey, who was solid throughout and came up with a crucial block in the second half.
Congratulating Duignan and Mahon on their selections, Offaly GAA wrote: "James Mahon is maturing into a very consistent defender, lightening quick and hard as nails.
"After yet another good performance, this time against Westmeath, James is full value for his place on this week's hurling team of the week.
"Brian Duignan chipped in with 14 points on Sunday (0-10 frees, 0-1 '65'), Brian has turned into Offaly's key scorer, he is deadly from placed balls and a great target man always showing for the sliotar.
"This is Brian's second time to be selected on the team of the week during this league campaign.
"Congratulations, lads, from all at Offaly GAA."
