Planning bid lodged for new Tullamore mural
Tullamore Tidy Towns has sought permission to transform the gable wall of a property at Bury Quay/Columcille Street by using it as the canvas for a colourful new mural.
The local community organisation lodged a planning application for the mural project with Offaly County Council on June 25.
Shane Murray lodged the planning application on behalf of Tullamore Tidy Towns, and it included a letter of consent from Sara Mansoor, the owner of the dwelling on which the mural would be painted.
A drawing submitted with the application shows the mural depicting a number of notable local heritage sites, with a hot air balloon rising above them all at the top of the image.
The letter of consent from the landowner, Ms Mansoor, states: "Tidy Towns is leading this one-time project, and the mural installation will be carried out in accordance with the specifications outlined in the planning application."
Ms Mansoor added in her letter a request that a grant of planning permission should include a condition "specifying that should I, as the property owner, wish to alter, repaint or replace the mural at any point in the future, any such modification must must be carried out with single-colour paint that matches the existing external facades of the building."
Offaly County Council is due to make its decision on the planning application for the mural by August 19.
