WATCH: Offaly boxer Gráinne on countdown to world championships in Liverpool

Tullamore's Gráinne Walsh has said the upcoming World Boxing championships in Liverpool will be the closest the Irish team is likely to get to contesting a major tournament on home soil.

The men's and women's world championships will be taking place simultaneously on Merseyside from September 4-14, and, in addition to Gráinne, Offaly will be represented on Team Ireland by Daingean's Brian Kennedy.

In a video interview shared by the Irish Athletic Boxing Association (IABA), Gráinne spoke about the final stages of preparation which have included taking part in a multi-nations training camp in Sheffield.

"This is really the time when the excitement starts to build, because everyone is getting sharp and we're all competing (at the training camp) against people we could potentially be fighting," she said.

The Irish team will depart for Liverpool next Tuesday morning (September 2).
