Watermain works to begin in Lusmagh this week

Local residents in Lusmagh are being advised to expect disruption from this coming week as work gets underway on an Uisce Éireann project involving the replacement of 730 metres of old watermains.

In a statement, Uisce Éireann said the watermain replacement project would be carried out between between the crossroads at Caplevane and Lusmagh National School.

Traffic management in the form of a stop-go system is due to be put be in place along the L3012, from the crossroads at Caplevane to Lusmagh NS.

Contractor Shareridge is carrying out the project on behalf of Uisce Éireann, with the work expected to be completed later this month.

"We would like to thank customers in Lusmagh in advance for their cooperation and patience while we complete these works," stated Uisce Éireann’s Programme Manager, Dave Murphy.

"These works are vital to ensure security of supply now and into the future, with the long-term benefits far outweighing any short-term inconvenience."

It was added that locals would be given "a minimum of 48 hours' notice" prior to any planned interruptions to their water supply while the work is taking place.

The project has been welcomed by Fine Gael councillor Eleanor Clendennen.

"I'm delighted to see this much-needed upgrade progressing for the Lusmagh area," said Cllr Clendennen.

"A secure and reliable water supply is essential for every home, farm, and school, and this investment by Uisce Éireann will make a real and lasting difference to the community."
