Offaly’s 'Create Green' programme shortlisted for EU CAP Network award

The Create Green business training programme in County Offaly has been named a finalist in the Environmental Protection category of the EU CAP Network’s Agricultural and Rural Inspiration Awards (ARIA) 2025.

Selected from over 120 entries across Europe, Create Green is one of just 24 projects to make it to the final shortlist.

This prestigious recognition celebrates forward-thinking and innovative projects that contribute to rural development and sustainability, supported by the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP).

ARIA awards, now in their 7th year, are dedicated to honouring CAP-funded initiatives that are making significant local impacts, especially in areas like environmental protection, rural economy, and social inclusion.

Create Green is a pioneering initiative developed by the Offaly Local Development Company (OLDC), and has received funding through the 2023-2027 LEADER Programme. It specifically targets creative and food/farming businesses in Offaly, acknowledging the crucial role these industries play in driving sustainable rural growth and enhancing Ireland's regional brand identity.

As the world faces growing environmental challenges, Create Green’s focus on climate action, the circular economy, and the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) is timely. The programme provides businesses with the tools, training, and support needed to align with sustainability principles and boost eco-friendly practices.

Participants benefit from guidance on topics such as energy efficiency, supply-chain awareness, and how to integrate SDG-linked themes into their operations. Furthermore, the programme offers expert advice on enhancing brand identity through sustainability and leveraging eco-tourism as a key business growth strategy.

The fact that Create Green has reached the ARIA final highlights the programme’s significance and potential impact. The awards organisers have emphasised that this year’s focus is on finding the greenest, smartest, and most resilient projects funded by CAP, with a strong emphasis on social inclusion and innovation.

In a statement, John Molloy, CEO of Offaly Local Development Company, expressed pride in the programme’s recognition:

"This shortlisting is a testament to the hard work of the businesses and the wider Offaly community. We're delighted to see Create Green being acknowledged on such a prestigious European platform. This recognition encourages further collaboration towards a greener, more sustainable future for rural Ireland."
