Major fundraising campaign launched for Kilclonfert girl

A major fundraising campaign is underway for Elsie Mae Scally who was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia in April.

Elsie Mae from Kilclonfert turned three-years-old on Tuesday and is the youngest daughter of David and Richella Scally.

"She's had a tough few weeks," godmother Noelle Garry says, explaining that Elsie Mae has had to endure hours of chemotherapy, blood transfusions and a run of antibiotics as part of her treatment in both Our Lady's Hospital Crumlin and the Midland Regional Hospital Mullingar. 

"The family are taking it day-by-day but she's a little fighter," Noelle adds.

Parents Richella and David and wide family were shocked that there beautiful and funny little Elsie Mae, who is "so full of mischief and life", could be diagnosed with such a life threatening disease.

She was was admitted to hospital immediately after her diagnosis and will continue treatment for at least the next two years.

The Team Scallywag fundraising committee have been set up to help the family on this difficult journey, raising funds to make life a little bit easier through this process.

They plan to run fundraisers over the next few months including one this Sunday, July 8 at Carz N Coffee in Tullamore, where a Charity Car, Bike and Truck Show will take place in the Cloncollig Industrial Estate.

Elsie Mae's three uncles, Neill, Rory and Aidan, have already completed the Women's Mini Marathon on June 3, dressed in drag, raising a staggering €10,769 of their €6,000 goal for Our Lady's Hospital Crumlin through GoFundMe.

They did so on behalf of their "beautiful little warrior princess" and for Crumlin who have be providing Elsie Mae which such good care.

Now, with one parent always having to be by Elsie Mae's side in hospital, and the other having to look after her two older siblings, Molly and Joseph, a group of friends and family have come together to help the family.

"We have been overwhelmed by the support from people," cotinues Noelle, "especially from the people at Carz N Coffee in Tullamore, they've been so good."

This Sunday's event is a family occasion and will get underway from 10am to 2pm in Cloncollig Industrial Estate, Tullamrore. It will include supercars like Ferraris and Lamborghini, while a Monster Draw will also be launched on the day and held in November with some very exciting prizes up for grabs!

On the day you will also have a chance to have take a spin in a supercar, and the fundraising committee are asking local businesses to get involved by sponsoring a car for €100.
