Leinster Road Championship honours for Harriers

The Leinster Novice and Masters Road Championships were held in Gowran, Kilkenny, on Bank Holiday Monday, with a good number from the club taking part. First into action were the Master Ladies with two laps of the course for the 3K distance. Liz Cuskelly was always in the leading bunch and went into a lead on the second lap. Liz ran very strong to the finish and held off the challenge of Mullingar"s Mary Scully to claim a great victory. Mary Daly ran a fine race to take second place in the V2 category. Martina Conlon also ran well and was the winner in the V3 section. These ladies combined to win Gold in the club standings. The Novice Men were up next and raced over a distance of 6k. Eddie Garry was our best placed finisher in 11th place followed by Barry Lambe in 24th place. The Master Men was the final race of the day and was run over 6K. Mick Murphy continued his recent good form to finish in sixth place and second place in M1 with Jody O"Reilly taking the bronze in M1. John Todd was the winner in the M5 section. Declan Madden took bronze in M2 with Martin Carroll also claiming bronze in M3. The Masters team of Mick Murphy, Jody O"Reilly, Declan Madden and John O"Connell finished 2nd club and also took 2nd county. Martin Carroll, Johnny Feery, John Todd and Joe Wrafter combined to win gold medals in both club and county in the M3+ category. Full results. Boston Scientific 4 Mile Road Race A huge crowd took part in the Boston Scientific 4 mile road race last Sunday. The race was very competitive up front with Tullamore man Barry Minnock winning an exciting race in a time of 20.50. Tullamore Harriers athlete Noel Kelly finished in second place just three seconds adrift of Minnock with Ferbanes Paul Buckley a close third in a time of 20.55. Pauline Curley was the clear winner in the Ladies category while Maire Triona Keane finished third.
