Time for "one love" again with Offaly Good Vibrations

It"s one year since Offaly Good Vibrations "One Love Concert" brought unity and great music to the people and the organisers are proud to announce that it will return later this month on Saturday, June 27, at Fergie"s Bar Tullamore. The concept for last year"s gig was to bring an alternative music experience to Offaly while also raising some serious issues such as world poverty, alienation, racism and depression. The idea was to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the original "One love Concert", which was held in Kingston, Jamaica. In organising this one day concert OGV wanted to emulate in some small way the influence that Bob Marley brought to the original concert back in 1978. Last year, local bands Hombre, Wayne Brennan, The Dirty Blagards, Lilac Blues and Skinsize Kings took part, while to keep the vibe real Natty Wailer (Bob Marley and The Wailers) headlined. A free barbeque was put on and all donations were given to Oxfam. It was a huge success and this gave OGV and its many hard working volunteers the encouragement to sustain a growing need and want for similar events. To headline this fantastic event on June 27 are a band that have been at the forefront of positive music since 1979. Coming from working class, industrial Birmingham, England, when The Beat rushed on to the music scene in 1979, it was a time of social, political and musical upheaval. Scoring hits with tunes that have now become so popular that it"s hard to remember a time when they didn"t exist, such as "Mirror in the Bathroom", "Save it for Later", "I Confess", "Stand Down Margaret", and their serene cover of Andy William"s "Can"t Get Used To Losing You". The band toured the world, touring with such artists as David Bowie, The Police, REM, The Clash, The Talking Heads, The Pretenders, and The Specials, to name but a few. Support on the night will come from a trusted mixer on the wheels of steel and local environmentalist outstanding in his field, Ragaman Bob. Tickets for One Love II are on sale at Fergie"s and Heartbeat City Tullamore. For more information check out www.myspace.com/thebeatofficial.
