Treble for Walsh and double for Hensey in county championships
The County Track and Field Championships were held in Tullamore on Thursday of last week. A number of guest athletes took part which helped increase numbers and provide good competition. There was some good performances on the night. In the sprints Ger Hensey completed an impressive 100 and 200-metre double while Mary Walsh claimed a treble in winning the masters 100m, 200m and the 400m. The 3000 metres provided the biggest field and the closest finish of the night with guest runner Derek Coogan just edging out Mick Murphy in a sprint finish. In the field events, Tom Rafferty completed a fine treble in the javelin, shot and discus, while Joe Mulligan also impressed.
