Baker shuffles his pack as Cork dual star Cadogan opts for football

Ollie Baker has made a number of changes to his Offaly team for Saturday's All-Ireland hurling qualifier in Pairc Ui Chaoimh (7pm) - while Cork have been dealt a blow with dual star Eoin Cadogan giving priority to Sunday's Munster football final. Baker has reacted to the 5-23 to 3-15 defeat against Galway in the Leinster semi-final by giving a debut to Lusmagh's Eoin Kelly in goals, while Conor Hernon (St Rynagh's) and Birr's Sean Ryan make their first championship starts of 2012. There are a number of positional changes in the side, with Derek Morkan moved to right half-back and James Rigney at left corner-back. Conor Mahon has been switched from midfield to centre-forward, while Colin Egan has been named at right half-forward and Joe Bergin is selected at full-forward. But with further switches before throw-in very much in vogue these days, whether Offaly actually line out in the allotted positions remains to be seen. In addition to goalkeeper James Dempsey, defender David Franks and attacker Cathal Parlon are the Offaly players to lose out. Meanwhile, Eoin Cadogan's decision to focus on the Cork's Munster football final clash with Clare has seen Jimmy Barry-Murphy give a full championship debut to Christopher Joyce for Saturday's hurling qualifier. Cadogan is expected to play the full game against Clare in Sunday's Munster football decider, so he was not considered for the starting fifteen for the hurling clash against Offaly, though he has been included in the panel. Joyce, a 20-year-old from the Na Piarsaigh club, has been named at centre half-back instead of Cadogan. His inclusion is one of two changes from the team which was pipped by Tipperary in the Munster semi-final, with Cian McCarthy called up in place of Cathal Naughton. Sean Og O hAilpin and John Gardiner - two of Cork's most prominent players in recent times - have been named among the subs once again. Although Cork go into tomorrow's game as warm favourites, the Rebels only had a single point to spare when they played Offaly at the same venue in last year's championship. The other Phase 2 qualifier tomorrow (Saturday) is the clash between Davy Fitzgerald's Clare and Anthony Daly's Dublin at Cusack Park, Ennis (also at 7pm, it will be broadcast live on TV3). The winners of Saturday's games will be paired off with Limerick and Wexford in Phase 3 of the qualifiers.
