Significant rise in admissions at 'very busy' Tullamore hospital

The HSE is urging people to only attend the Emergency Department in Tullamore Hospital if it's absolutely essential, as the local facility is very busy at present.

In a statement this morning (Tuesday), a HSE spokesperson said there had been "a significantly increased number of people requiring admission to the hospital" this week.

"The hospital is reminding members of the public to consider their care options before presenting to the Emergency Department.

"We advise that the public only attend our emergency services if absolutely essential," said the spokesperson.

"If you are unwell, please go to your GP or pharmacy in the first instance. It is essential that we protect our emergency services for those who require emergency care.

"Do not delay in seeking medical attention if you suspect you are having a heart attack or stroke - please dial 999 or 112 in an emergency."

Those who do have to attend the Emergency Department are being asked to ensure that they wear a mask, practice social distancing, and tell the triage personnel if they experience any signs of symptoms of Covid-19.
