Oasis founding member to be honoured in Kinnitty
Oasis founding member and drummer Tony McCarroll is to be honoured with a commemorative plaque at Kinnitty Parish Hall this month.
Tony McCarroll, who was born in Manchester, has strong connections to Offaly. His mother, Bridie McCarroll (née O'Donnell) is from Kinnitty, and the family lived there again in the 1980's, with a young Tony attending Kinnitty National School. It was during his time living in Offaly that he first played the drums at a public performance, at a school nativity play.
The official unveiling of this plaque on August 31 at 6pm will coincide with the 30th anniversary of Oasis' iconic debut studio album Definitely Maybe, on which McCarroll played the drums. A special 30th anniversary edition of the album is being re-released on Friday, August 30.
Tony McCarroll will be joined by event organiser John McFadden on stage in Kinnitty Community Centre at 7pm on August 31 for an 'In Conversation' event followed by a Q&A session with the audience. Afterwards, there will be a Meet ‘n’ Greet session for Oasis fans. The celebrations will end with a night of Oasis music in Giltraps of Kinnitty.
Tickets for the event are currently available here and priced at €20.
