Offaly football legend inducted into Leinster GAA Hall of Fame

Offaly football legend Eugene Mulligan has been inducted into the Leinster GAA Hall of Fame.

The event took place in Croke Park on Sunday ahead of the Leinster football final.

The citation described the Rhode man as "one of the most famous names in Offaly football and a man that has made a vast contribution to the GAA at a variety of levels for club and county."

Mulligan won two All-Ireland football medals with Offaly in 1971 and 1972, an All Ireland Minor medal in 1964.

He was a Texaco Footballer of the Year and an All Star winner, as well as a holder of five Leinster championship medals.

He won 4 Offaly Senior Football Championship medals with Rhode.

He managed his native Rhode to the county title in 1998 as well as serving as chairman of the club.

In a glittering playing career with Offaly, Eugene made 13 championship appearances at Minor level, 10 at U21 and 76 League and 41 championship appearances at Senior level.
