Ballinamere NS receives updated allocation of SNAs for summer programme

Ballinamere National School has now received a full allocation of 9 SNAs for its Summer Programme Scheme.

The school originally received an allocation of 6 SNAs for the programme, which was increased after intervention from local TDs.

Ballinamere first opened an autism class back in 2002. It now has three autism classes, as well as a three week summer programme.

TD for Offaly Tony McCormack said the school contacted him after receiving "a lower allocation than expected".

"I immediately raised the matter with Minister of State Michael Moynihan, who assured me he would give the issue his full attention as it falls within his remit," Deputy McCormack said.

"I would like to sincerely thank Minister of State Moynihan for his prompt engagement and for helping to bring this matter to a satisfactory conclusion."

Raising the issue in The Dail on Tuesday, June 9, John Clendennen TD said the summer programme or July provision scheme has "proven an invaluable resource to families and provides a vital service over the course of the summer months".

"Since the turn of the decade, those numbers have quadrupled from 13,000 to almost 70,000. I would like reassurance from the Government that there will be no cut to SNAs in relation to the summer programme and that it will ensure that this vital service can be provided from June 24."
