Mundy pays tribute to a "trailblazer" of Irish music

Birr singer-songwriter Mundy has spoken of the "influence" which Glen Hansard had on his career following the musician's death on Wednesday.

Hansard, lead singer with The Frames, tragically died following a road traffic accident in Dublin in the early hours of last Wednesday morning, prompting an outpouring of grief from fans and fellow musicians.

In a social media post, Mundy described Hansard as a "trailblazer" whose "energy was unmatched".

"He was such an influence on me. His right hand was the most magical thing to watch and he could whisper and roar the walls down," Mundy said.

The solo artist said The Commitments actor was "parallel to all the greats" and "all the greats knew who he was".

"Glen wouldn’t give up. He was dropped a few times by the record labels and that only made him stronger.

"I wouldn’t have liked a physical run in with him, because I know he would fight 'til his heart stopped beating.

"I love you Glen Hansard and thank you for being an inspiration and educator to us all. Thanks for your generosity and phenomenal energy and songs. Forever Young," Mundy added.
