Offaly rugby stalwart nominated for Seán O’Brien Hall of Fame award

Edenderry Rugby Football Club stalwart Alan Finney has been nominated for this year's Leinster Rugby annual Seán O’Brien Hall of Fame award.

Finney has been a long-time contributor to the development of the game in Edenderry, Offaly and its surrounding areas, and is a former president and current club member at Edenderry RFC.

The annual event is a celebration of club rugby across the province and its ceremony – to be held later this month - kicks-off the rugby season, while also recognising volunteers who have given to the club game.

Nominations are accepted from the five designated areas of Leinster Rugby: metropolitan, midlands, north east, north midlands and south east (alongside a nomination from senior clubs in Leinster).

The awards will take place at Westmanstown Sports & Conference Centre on Saturday, August 29, when all nominees will be recognised and celebrated, and the overall winner will be inducted into the Hall of Fame and receive the Seán O’Brien Hall of Fame Award.

Edenderry RFC said; 'This is a huge honour for Alan and a representation of the many years dedication to Edenderry RFC and wider Midlands rugby'.

This year's nominations are: Metropolitan Area: Michael Foley, De La Salle Palmerston FC, Midlands Area: Alan Finney, Edenderry RFC, North East Area: Tommy Campbell, Dundalk RFC, North Midlands Area: Roger Satchwell, North Kildare RFC, South East Area: Ronan Griffey (RIP), Wicklow RFC, Senior Clubs: Dorothy Collins, Old Belvedere RFC.
