'Final link' of Grand Canal Greenway in Offaly to be completed in summer 2027

The final link of Grand Canal Greenway in Offaly set to be completed in summer 2027.

Work is actively progressing on a 3.2 km section extending from Downshire Bridge in Edenderry to the Offaly/Kildare county boundary.

This section represents the final link of the Grand Canal Greenway within County Offaly and will further enhance connectivity for walkers, cyclists and local communities along this historic waterway corridor.

Waterways Ireland said the project will deliver a high-quality, safe and accessible route, supporting recreation, active travel and sustainable tourism, while connecting people with the unique heritage and natural environment of the Grand Canal.

Offaly County Council said recent site inspections by Waterways Ireland "demonstrate the substantial progress acheived to date".
