Tullamore hopsital marks World Ostomy Awareness Day
Midlands Regional Hospital Tullamore marked World Ostomy Awareness Day by highlighting the experiences of people living with a stoma and the importance of access to quality care, education, support and essential ostomy supplies.
World Ostomy Awareness Day took place yesterday, Thursday, October 1.
This year's theme “One Community Stronger Together" provided an opportunity to raise awareness of the millions of people worldwide who live with an ostomy following life-changing surgery.
The awareness day also aimed to challenge stigmas and misconceptions surrounding stomas and invisible disabilities, while promoting greater understanding and support for those affected.
Among the key goals of the initiative were raising awareness of ostomy surgery, improving quality of life for patients, advocating for patient rights and access to services and supplies, and fostering a stronger sense of community among people living with an ostomy.
Hospital staff also thanked everyone who visited the awareness stand throughout the day to learn more about stomas and the services and supports available through Midlands Regional Hospital Tullamore and across Offaly, Laois and the wider Midlands region.
