Tullamore's provincial hopes dashed in Parnell Park

Tullamore 1-11

Cuala 0-16

Tullamore's quest for Leinster senior football championship success was ended by Dublin champions Cuala in Parnell Park on Sunday.

Despite a Harry Plunkett scoring tour-de-force, Tullamore exited the provincial championship in what was an end-to-end contest in the capital.

A game laden with intensity from the throw-in, it was the recently crowned four time Offaly champions who took a one point lead into the interval, courtesy of a 28th minute goal from Luke Plunkett.

Tullamore's ultimate downfall was due to a period of play between the 39th and 54th minutes during which they were outscored by seven points.

However, a two pointer from Harry Plunkett reduced the scoreboard to the minimum and when Tullamore's scorer-in-chief restored parity to the contest on 58 minutes, it appeared that extra-time was inevitable.

But just as Cuala appeared to be reeling from the Tullamore response, Con O'Callaghan kicked an inspirational two pointer to ensure the Dalkey club advanced to the quarter-final stage of the competition.

It was a case of further heartache for Tullamore, who were also defeated by Cuala on their way to All-Ireland senior club football championship success in 2025.
