Tullamore student scoops fashion design award

A Tullamore secondary school student has won first prize in a national fashion design award. Sinead O"Dwyer, a Tullamore College student, won the 'Reinvent Fashion' award, run by the third-level institution Griffith College. The competition asked Ireland"s fashion designers of the future to research, design and construct one outfit using second-hand garments to remake a one off original for Spring Summer 2009 or Autumn Winter 2009. The brief raised awareness of sustainable design through reuse of unwanted clothing and through this environmental initiative students are compelled to develop their creativity and design talents. Sinead beat a total of 150 students from all over Ireland who entered the competition, which was open to transition, fifth and sixth year students.
