Inland Fisheries Ireland investigating fish kill in Tullamore

Inland Fisheries Ireland (IFI) has confirmed they are investigating a fish kill in Tullamore, where 69 fish, primarily brown trout, have died.

IFI said the incident occurred on a one kilometre stretch of the Tullamore River in the Offaly town.

"IFI personnel, together with statutory partners, first attended the site of the incident on Tuesday, September 22, following reports to its information line, and were on site again today (Thursday).

"Water samples have been taken from the river for analysis and assessments into the extent, and the cause, of the fish kill are ongoing," the IFI confirmed.

The IFI has advised members of the public are advised not to consume any dead fish found at waterways in the area.

IFI is continuing to work with Offaly County Council and the Environmental Protection Agency to investigate the fish kill, and is the lead agency on this case.
