Birr church to host 'Century of Irish Song' concert next month

St Brendan's Church of Ireland in Birr is preparing to host the 'A Century of Irish Song' concert next month.

Taking place on Sunday, October 5, at 3pm, the event promises to weave together traditional melodies, art song and piano solos tracing the evolution of Ireland’s rich musical heritage from the early 19th to the mid-20th century.

The concert will be led by mezzo-soprano Clare Dixon and pianist Sophie Ward for a lyrical journey through a hundred years of Irish song.

Featuring works by John Field, Thomas Moore, Herbert Hughes, Ina Boyle, and Benjamin Britten, alongside timeless traditional airs, this performance celebrates the beauty, sorrow, and spirit of Irish music across generations.

This concert is supported by the JVM Trench Will Trust.

Admission: €10 (children free). Tickets available at the door (cash only).
